Publishing Interactive Maps Online with QGIS Server
About this course
This intermediate-level certification course trains GIS professionals in the publication and deployment of interactive online maps using QGIS and QGIS Server. Participants will master the connection between QGIS Desktop and real-time geospatial distribution environments through OGC standards (WMS, WMTS, WFS, WCS, OGC API - Features). Through hands-on exercises, learners will configure web services, integrate web mapping clients such as QGIS Web Client and MapProxy, and deploy production-ready web mapping infrastructures. The course culminates in a complete practical project simulating the deployment of an interactive web mapping platform.

Course syllabus
Module 1
Foundations of Web Mapping and OGC Standards in QGIS: This module introduces the fundamentals of web mapping with QGIS and the OGC protocols used to distribute geospatial data online. Learners will discover the QGIS publishing capabilities and understand the role of each standard (WMS, WMTS, WFS, WCS) in the web mapping ecosystem.
Module 2
Consuming Web Services and Online Resources in QGIS: This module focuses on QGIS as a web mapping client, capable of consuming remote geospatial services. Learners will master loading and interacting with WMS, WMTS, WFS layers and other web data sources, including XYZ tiles, ArcGIS REST and SensorThings.
Module 3
Deploying and Administering QGIS Server: This module covers the complete deployment of QGIS Server as a backend for distributing interactive online maps. Learners will install, configure and secure QGIS Server, master OGC service requests, and integrate the server with web clients and third-party tools.
Final Project
Deploying an Interactive Web Mapping Platform with QGIS Server: In this capstone project, you will design, configure, and deploy a complete interactive web mapping platform powered by QGIS Server, simulating a real-world request from a municipality wishing to publish a public geoportal.
